The remains of Christopher Columbus have been removed from Seville Cathedral for DNA testing in the hope that the dispute over the explorer's final resting place may finally be solved. The official story states that after Columbus died in Valladolid in 1506, his remains were transferred to the monastery of La Cartja in Seville and thence for burial beside his son Diego in Santa Domingo cathedral on Hispaniola in 1544.
