Your article on the SS Mendi (February 2007) rang a bell, and had me reaching for my copy of Dive Wight and Hampshire (1987), which has this to say about the wreck: 'Today the wreck lies in a north-east to south-west direction and is over 12m proud. She is breaking up. Much of the decking has collapsed and this leaves her large boilers standing above the main wreckage, in which there are many cases of shells and rifle ammunition.
