New Zealand is one of the most beautiful island nations on earth. By its very nature, the economy of New Zealand requires it to be an exporting nation, particularly for agricultural goods. In spring of 1999 (late fall in New Zealand), I traveled there to explore the country's alternative agriculture. I was particularly interested in the production of velvet deer antler, a traditional Chinese "herb," if you will. It is used in prescriptions as a general tonic for debility, dizziness, impotence, involuntary emission, and kidney pains (most often in men).
