Courier plans to spend $39 million to add publishing to its product and service mix. NORTH CHELMSFORD, MASS.--Courier Corporation, the nation's fifth-largest book manufacturer with annual sales of $162 million, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dover Publications, Inc., Mineola, N.Y.

Courier agreed to purchase 100% of Dover's stock for $39 million in cash. Dover, with 1999 revenues of approximately $32 million, claims to have more than 7,000 titles in print in over 30 specialty categories ranging from military history and paper dolls to musical scores and typographic fonts.
