Gaz de France (GdF) and Electricite de France (EdF) have jointly developed a powerful fuel cell, now generating power locally to a community in France's first full-scale experimental facility. Energy efficient, clean, and silent, this cell is installed in Chelles, in the Seine-Et-Marne Department (region) in the suburbs of Paris.
At 200 kW electrical power and 220 kW thermal power, it supplies the equivalent of 200 dwellings with heat and electricity. The fuel cell operates using natural gas and belongs to the category known as phosphoric acid cells. The generator connects to the town's electricity network, delivering power at 400V.
