Notifier. Many residence halls are faced with the safety concern of smoke detectors subjected to tampering. Boston's Northeastern University has found a solution. It used to be that university public-safety officials would conduct quarterly inspections of living areas and would regularly find some smoke detectors removed from the ceiling.
