But in many schools, students find obstacles on the path to excellence: the school building itself. Facilities that have ill-advised designs, inadequate ventilation, poor acoustics, dim lighting, drafty doors and windows, inefficient heating and cooling systems, and other flaws can create conditions that impair a student's ability to learn.
