Consumers, expecting the latest in integrated voice, video and data services along with home networking and other value-added services, will create an explosive market for residential gateways (RGs) over the next several years.

This consumer hunger for the up-to-the-minute broadband services means RG products will evolve from basic broadband access boxes to complex integrated services gateways with value-added services such as home security control, remote management and video-on-demand.

Electronics equipment and component manufacturers will have lucrative opportunities in the RG market as sales rise sharply from $100 million in 2000 to $5 billion in 2005.
