Prudential purchase is troubled.

* Seven weeks after Prudential Securities Inc. announced it was buying investment bank Volpe Brown Whelan & Co. of San Francisco, problems have begun, reports sister publication Crain's New York Business. Six of Volpe's top stock analysts and two-star investment bankers have quit. The defections are a blow to a firm trying to beef up technology underwriting.
