Sticking its fin in domain game.

Investment News, December, 2000 by O'Brien, Sarah

If the financial services industry gets its way, dot-fin will eventually become as familiar as dot-com. The Washington-based Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers, which manages Internet addresses, rejected the proposed domain suffix in mid-November. But New York-based Thomson Financial Media is calling for a global summit to build worldwide support for the suffix.

The idea is that dot-fin use would be restricted to legitimate financial services companies. So what beat out dot-fin? The Internet Corp. approved seven new suffixes: dot-biz, dot-info, dot-name, dot-pro, dot-museum, dot-aero and dot-coop. It did say, however, that dot-fin warrants further review.
