Lucent Technologies has quietly won a huge contract for its optical networking gear worth a conservatively estimated $1 billion over five years. The deal marks a radical shift in fortunes at Lucent, according to Mark Lutkowitz, an optical networking analyst with Communications Industry Researchers Inc.
