Byline: Jeff Benjamin DETROIT - The financial advice industry appears to be on track for the next stage of its evolution with the expected adoption later this year of a set of international standards that will work to define the process of financial planning. More than four years in the making, the final version of the first-ever international standards for financial planning will be voted on in June and could become effective as early as November.

What this ultimately means for financial planners and the broader financial services industry is still a matter of debate. There are those, for instance, who contend that the standards, established through the cooperation of representatives from nearly 40 countries and written under parameters...
