Last Monday, the former chief executive of The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. of New York was sworn in as the 74th U.S. Treasury secretary, making him a lead player in the Bush administration's effort to repair its image.
"Paulson will play a direct role in righting the economic ship and position the administration to get proper credit for the strong economy,'' Charles Gabriel, an analyst with Prudential Equity Group LLC in New York, reportedly said.
