Byline: Brooke Southall Conflicting financial indicators have advisers on edge in trying to get a grip on securities markets as a hot summer wears on. Tamer inflation, a weaker housing market and a Federal Reserve Board stuck in neutral over whether to raise or lower interest rates make clear mandates elusive.

The situation reinforces the lumpy word "conundrum'' that former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan used months ago, according to Reginald Tilley, financial adviser for Appropriate Balance Financial Services Inc. in Bellevue, Wash., which manages $350 million. "I think it's still a conundrum, but you can't sit on your hands if you think the market has some legs to it,'' he said. "I bought [significant amounts of] stocks and bonds today.''...
