Merrill says BoA eyeing Barclays

Bank of America Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., may be about to make a bid for London's Barclays Bank PLC, creating the world's biggest bank, according to a research report released Friday by Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. of New York.

The Merrill Lynch report said that Bank of America, the world's second-largest bank by market capitalization, could generate savings of up to $3 billion from a deal, in part by lowering corporate and staff costs, and the integration of the banks' credit card divisions.
