Atari eyes National Semiconductor. (Atari Computer Corp. plans joint venture with National Semiconductor Israel Ltd.)
Israel Business Today, April, 1992
National Semiconductor is planning to expand its operations in Migdal Haemek, according to plant Managing Director Don Kirby. In order to do so, the company is currently negotiating with the U.S. company Atari and other unnamed companies in order to arrange for a joint venture. Atari has an interest in entering a partnership, since it is said to be negotiating with the government for the opening of its own plant. Since National Semiconductor manufactures parts essential to Atari's computers, the factory expansion, which would reduce per-unit costs, would directly affect the U.S. company.
According to newspaper reports, the joint venture is contingent on massive aid from the government since some $90 million is needed for reinvestment.
