Schreier vs. Israel Discount. (Bernard Schreier vies with Israel Discount Bank Ltd. to purchase Barclays Discount Bank)
Israel Business Today, January, 1993
The Bank of Israel still has not reached a decision regarding who will purchase the British share of Barclays Discount -- British businessman Bernard Schreier or Israel Discount Bank. Schreier has proposed to buy British Barclay's holdings in the bank (50.6 percent) for $55 million. However, according to sources close to Schreier, he is thinking of withdrawing his proposal in light of the government's indecision.
In the meantime, Israel Discount has asked the Tel Aviv District Court to overturn a Bank of Israel decision to not let it purchase the British share. The court is expected to give its decision on January 13. C/25/12/1c/SG
