BT vies for phone tender. (British Telecom leads consortium group to gain license to be Israel's second national carrier for international calls)

Israel Business Today, April, 1995

British Telecom (BT) will lead a consortium that will compete in the Ministry of Communication's tender to grant a license for a second national carrier for international calls. The BT consortium will include Tadiran, Idan Software Industries and Darcom, a subsidiary of Idan -- the latter two of which are callback operators with strong ties in the Israeli business community. BT will hold 30 percent of the consortium, with each of the other three parties holding a 23.33 percent stake.

Britain's second biggest telecom company, Cable and Wireless, is also discussing the possibility of a joint venture with Bezeq the Israel Telecommunications Corp. to carry international calls.
