Gal calls for Intel rethink.(Gedalya Gal asks Israel to reconsider capital investment package to Intel Corp.)

Knesset Finance Committee chairman Gedalya Gal has called for the government to reconsider the size of its capital investment aid package to the Intel Corporation. As things stand, Intel is to receive the maximum Industry and Trade Ministry grant of $600 million, which is the equivalent of the ministry's entire 1996 budget for investment grants.
Gal said that the argument between the ministry and the Treasury over whether the actual grant should be 38 percent or 30 percent of the total investment is immaterial. The main issue, said Gal, is whether grants of this size should be made at all.
For his part, Industry and Trade Minister Micha Harish said that the solution to the situation is for the government to increase the size of the ministry's investment...
