Senate committee to look into Holocaust victims' bank deposits. (Swiss banks accused of retaining deposits of Holocaust victims)(Brief Article)

Senator Alfonse D'Amato, chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, has expressed his concern that Swiss bank documents relating to Holocaust victims' deposits may not provide full details of the relevant accounts. D'Amato has already applied to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. for help in preparing related papers prior to a committee hearing on the subject. The senator has also met with World Jewish Congress (WJC) director, Israel Singer, to discuss the matter.

In his letter to the museum, D'Amato said that his committee will make every effort possible to ascertain the exact amount of deposits left in Swiss banks by Holocaust victims for which there are no known heirs. The committee will also look into the conditions under which the deposits were...
