Enron denies consortium link.(consortium that is planning a $2-billion pwer station in Arava, Israel)

U.S. energy giant, Enron, has refuted reports that it has joined an international consortium which is planning to establish a $2-billion power station in the Arava region. Representatives of the consortium recently held talks with Prime Minister Shimon Peres, Finance Minister Avraham Shohat and Energy Minister Gonen Segev on the matter.

Segev explained that Enron's reticence is the result of a difference of opinion with London-based Lebanese businessman, Muhammad Ajami, who acted as Enron's mediator in negotiations over Israel's prospective import of Qatari gas from Enron-owned fields.

Segev added that Ajami, who held meetings with Segev, Peres and Shohat as head of the consortium, is promoting the construction of the Arava power station as an alternative...
