EI Al fears freight volume drop. (El Al Airlines on Federal Express entrance into the Israeli market)
Israel Business Today, January, 1997
Senior officials at El Al Airlines have expressed fears that the entrance of U.S. giant Federal Express into the local air freight market will impact significantly on the airline's revenue in this area. Currently, air freight accounts for around one quarter of El Al's income.
As of next month, Federal Express will operate four flights a week. An El Al spokesperson said that the U.S. company's move into the local market came "at the worst possible time," adding that El Al had hoped to recoup some of its losses, due to a tourism slump, from operations in this category.
