Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedICs dole out system clock: Gazelle parts use "slow" GaAs; Motorola chip in CMOS. (integrated circuits; gallium arsenide; complementary metal oxide semiconductor)
EDN, August, 1990 by Arnold, Bill
ICs dole out system clock SANTA CLARA, CA--Say goodbye to advanced Schottky kluges, high-speed buffers, and delay lines in 25-, 33-, 40-, and 50-MHz systems that can handle TTL-compatible gallium arsenide. Gazelle Microcircuits today becomes the second chip maker this summer to begin sampling clock distribution chips.
Motrorola's Semiconductor Products Sector (Phoenix, AZ) began sampling a CMOS clock driver in June and will release it to production later this month. The Gazelle and Motorola parts enable design engineers to synchronize a system clock with multiple ICs. Daisy-chaining techniques can put add-in card components in sync with the motherboard [microprocessor]. Both companies' parts hold output skew to less than 500 psec, use internal...
