Drive makers again predict 8-in. demise Some makers of 8-inch drives are again predicting that the form factor is on its way out.

Fujitsu America (San Jose, CA) "will introduce one more generation of 8-inch drives, maybe two," according to product marketing director David Roy.

Seagate Technology (Scotts Valley, CA) also foresees the inevitable decline of the 8-inch drive. The company's Sabre ST83050 and the ST83220--introduced at Comdex--are the seventh and perhaps penultimate generation. "There will be more to come," says marketing director Rudy Thibodeau. "Another [generation] for sure. Anything after that is too early to call."
