Baseband and RF ICs comprise digital-cellular subsystem. (integrated circuits) (AT&T Microelectronics' W2005 receiver, W2010 transmitter and DSP1654A chip set) (Product Announcement)

EDN, March, 1993 by Swager, Anne Watson

Transceiver and baseband chip sets from AT&T Microelectronics that perform radio and processing functions let designers easily comply with the dual-mode (analog and digitally modulated signals) IS-54 digital-cellular standard. The ICs work together with a minimum of interconnect and feature low-power shutdown modes and small packaging.

The W2005 receiver and W2010 transmitter make up the transceiver chip set. The W2005 receiver is unique because it performs both FM (analog) and digital (DQPSK, or differential quadrature phase shift key) demodulation on the same chip. The device uses a superheterodyne architecture to shift the frequency of the incoming 824- to 849-MHz signals to an intermediate frequency of 455 kHz, and then offers a dual path for...
