Kirk Pond, Fairchild's president, CEO and chairman, is excited about the Samsung acquisition, completed in April for $450 million. "The acquisition of the Power Device Division is a strategic purchase," he says. "It provides us with geographic balance, boosting our presence in Korea and the Asia Pacific region." Fairchild already is strong in the American and European markets.
In addition, the acquisition "gives us a complementary product line focused on high-power products, supplementing our existing focus on the low-power discrete end of the spectrum."
