Jack-of-all-trades test set handles 10-Gbps optical networks.(Tektronix' OTS9000 optical test set)(Brief Article)(Product Announcement)

EDN, February, 2000 by Strassberg, Dan

WITH THE ADVENT of the OC-192 and STM64 standards, dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) is about to bring 10-Gbps signals to packet-switched fiber-optic networks. However, before operators can deploy such networks, manufacturers of ultra-high-speed data-transmission equipment need to test the network components. Designing and manufacturing equipment for evaluating such complex, highspeed products is no small task. To support the rapid ramp-up in optical-network-equipment production, test equipment must do more than just work. It needs to make rapid measurements, be easy to set up, and readily adapt to changes in the technology and the measurement task.

Enter Tektronix, with its OTS9000 optical test set for characterizing and testing transmitters,...
