Select critical timing functions for programmable clock buffer.(Product Announcement)

EDN, March, 2000 by Schweber, Bill

TARGETING HIGH-END communications and networking systems, the Roboclock II family from Cypress Semiconductor Corp lets you program key parameters. The 3.3V, 185-MHz IC provides 18 buffered outputs from one master clock. It features programmable "divide-by" ratios of one to 12, incremental phase adjustments for skew as great as 10.4 nsec in increments of 625 or 1300 psec, output-to-output jitter lower than 250 psec, and cycle-to-cycle jitter lower than 100 psec.

In line with today's increasing need for flexibility, reliability, and redundancy, the buffers' reference clock accepts differential positive-ECL and differential and single-ended, low-voltage-TTL signals. You can select one of two input clocks for fault tolerance, and you can hot-swap these...
