YOU CAN PROGRAM the THS8083 8-bit video A/D converter from Texas Instruments to accept either analog-component TV or PC-graphics signal inputs. It directly accepts RGB or digital-TV YPbPr signal formats and includes a digital PLL with integrated loop filter to generate a line-locked clock signal.

The versatile IC handles all 18 ATSC digital-TV formats, including 1080I and 720P, and PC formats as high as XGA 1024x768-pixel resolution with conversions at 80M samples/sec (with 95M samples/sec to follow). Each of the trio of channels includes a programmable clamp circuit, enabling the channel to accept an ac-coupled video signal, plus a programmable-gain amplifier that offers scaling of input video signals from 0.4 to 1.2Vp-p to match the converter's...
