QUICKLOGIC, WITH ITS QUICKSD DEVICES, continues to lead the programmable-logic charge into ASIC/FPGA hybrids, which the company calls Embedded Standard Products. With as many as eight SERDES (serializer/deserializer, along with multiplexer/demultiplexer) data channels and two clock channels, all bus-LVDS for high-current and long-signal-drive capability, the parts are most reminiscent of Lucent Technologies' (www.lucent. com) ORT4622 and ORT8850 but with some important differences (see "EDN's first annual programmable-logic directory," EDN, Aug 17, 2000, pg 54). Lucent placed not only the SERDES and CDR circuits, but also a SONET framer in ASIC logic.
