IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO TACKLE a portable design using a high-resolution LCD screen, you may want to consider Sharp's LH79531. The integrated device combines a 32-bit ARM processor with a 64,000-color (15-gray-shade) LCD controller, along with a host of peripherals. Sharp has paired the ARM7TDMIT RISC processor with 8 kbytes of programmable cache/SRAM, yielding about 50 MIPS of processing power. The LCD controller supports resolution as high as 1024X768 pixels and can directly interface to almost any type of monochrome or color LCD, including supertwist nematic, CSTN (color supertwist nematic), TFT (thin-film transistor), DMTN (double-metal or diode-matrix LCD), and Sharp's highly reflective TFT panels.
