DC/DC converter produces 400-rev output.(Fairchild Semiconductor FAN5066)(Brief Article)

EDN, September, 2001

DC/DC converter produces 400-rev output. The FAN-5066 synchronous-mode dc/dc converter can achieve 85% conversion efficiency at low output voltages with a minimum of external components. The converter provides an adjustable output of 3.5V down to 0.4V. You can use the FAN5066 for driving external n-channel MOSFETs to deliver load currents in excess of 19A from a 5V input, meeting the requirements of DDR SDRAM buses and low-voltage ASICs. You can set an on-chip oscillator to operate between 80 kHz and 1 MHz. Regulation is [ or -] 20% of range. Housed in a 20-pin SOIC package, the FAN5066 costs $1.06 (1000).
