REAL-TIME MULITMEDIA DSP TARGETS PORTABLE INTERNET APPLIANCES. TI's TMS320DSC24 enables real-time video in imaging Internet appliances. The 500-MIPS DSP sports the performance to deliver encoding or decoding of real-time video at 320x240-pixel (CIF) resolution and consumes as little as 75 mW for MP3 playback and 205 mW for MPEG 4 video encoding or playback. The DSC24 combines on a single device the low-power TMS320C5000 DSP to perform real-time media processing and an ARM7TDMI RISC processor for general system-control functions. DSC24-optimized software modules for MPEG 4, MPEG 1, H.263, MP3, Advanced Audio Coding, JPEG, and motion JPEG are available. The device comes in a 257GHK MicroStar BGA package and costs $25 (100,000).
