Radicom Research has introduced a 2400-bps modem for set-top boxes, point-of-sale terminals, ATMs, and other embedded-system applications that require fast connections, minimized power consumption, and low-cost data communications. The model 240IM-T-LP InchModem measures only 1.1 x 1.1 x 0.39 in. and typically consumes 50 mA of supply current while active and 13.5 mA in sleep mode.

The fully self-contained devices include a data pump, a modem controller, and an onboard international data-access arrangement. The modem also includes line-in-use, call-waiting, remote-hang-up, and extension-pickup-detection features.
