Single-chip NSP family designed for Layer 3 to Layer 7 networking.(Microprocessors)(Brief Article)

The Octeon NSP (network-services processor) includes two to 16 cnMIPS cores (Cavium Networks' implementation of MIPS64) with Release 2 enhancements and additional built-in hardware acceleration for content and security processing. The processor also features on-chip coprocessor blocks for internet services acceleration and multiple Gigabit Ethernet, SPI-4.2, and PCI-X interfaces. Its main-memory interface supports ECC-protected DDR I/DDR II DRAM operating as fast as 400 MHz, with capacity as large as 16 Gbytes. Production price for the Octeon family ranges from $125 for the two core version to $750 for the 16 core version (10,000).
