ADD ANALOG DEVICES TO THE LIST of companies supplying chips compatible with the fast growing HDMI (high-definition-multimedia-interface) standard (see "Video processor embraces high-speed A/V link," EDN, Jan 20, 2005, pg 14). ADI puts a unique--at least for now--spin on the concept, embedding both analog and digital interfaces on the single-chip AD9880.

Both interfaces operate at rates as high as 165 MHz and, therefore, are compatible with 10-80p and UXGA display resolutions, and the analog receiver accepts both YPrPb (component-video) and RGB inputs. The company has been publicly shopping the device around since last spring, but the product recently passed HDMI Version 1.1-compliance testing.
