OSHA issues cabinet press safety bulletin.(Talk Of The Trade)

OSHA recently issued safety bulletin No. SHIB 03-07-16, based on its investigation of an accident that killed the operator of a cabinet press at a Massachusetts plant in 2002.

The incident was caused by a semiautomatic cabinet shirt press. The unit consists of a single buck, which the operator "dresses" before it enters the cabinet containing the press heads. After the operator simultaneously depresses and holds the machine's two transfer buttons and a foot pedal, the buck enters the press. At the end of the cycle, the press opens automatically, and the buck emerges from the cabinet.
