Longtime association executive Joe Phillips passed away Oct. 12 at his home in Greenfield, Wis. Born Joseph Popielarski in Milwaukee in 1934, Phillips graduated from Marquette University, served in the Army and had a long career in radio before opening Torii Advertising Inc. in suburban Milwaukee.
After executing campaigns for a variety of local companies, the firm focused on managing trade associations, including the Wisconsin Fabricare Institute (WFI). He sold the agency in 2002.
Phillips is survived by his wife, Kikue, two children, four grandchildren, other relatives and many good friends. Memorial donations to St. Mary's Endowment Fund or the School of Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund may be sent c/o Kikue Popielarski, 10180 W. Meadow Drive,...
