PMC-Sierra has announced the sampling of what are said to be the industry's first 4.25 Gb/s Fibre Channel intelligent port bypass controllers and Quad CMOS SERDES devices for next-generation enterprise storage arrays and storage network applications. The PM8377 PBC 4 X 4 and PM8369 PBC 18 X 4G intelligent port bypass controllers support 4.25 Gb/s devices, and they are pin and software compatible to the company's PM3872 PBC 4 X 2G and PM8368 18 X 2G intelligent port bypass controllers. To support the recent Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) vote to extend 4.25 Gb/s Fibre Channel into the SAN Fabric, the company is sampling the PM8356 Quad PHY 4GFC four-channel CMOS SERDES for Fibre Channel Fabric Switch Host-Bus Adapter applications.
