STMicroelectronics is in full production with an integrated cable set-top box chip jointly developed with Scientific Atlanta. The Atlas chip is a production-ready custom integrated circuit that has been deployed in advanced set-tops, such as Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer[R] 8000[TM] family. The Atlas SoC contains over 56 million transistors and provides high definition, digital-video recording and other video-processing functions in a silicon chip with advanced packaging. The chip supports Scientific-Atlanta's Multi-Room[TM] DVR, which enables consumers to access content stored on the DVR's hard drive and share that content in up to three additional rooms.
