Texas Instruments' MCU family features ultra low power consumption.(Winners: Integrated Circuits)

ECN-Electronic Component News, December, 2005

Texas Instruments has introduced a family in its MSP430 ultra-low power 16-bit RISC microcontroller product line that is said to offer twice the processing performance and half the standby power consumption compared to earlier devices. The MSP-430F2xx family provides a real-time clock standby mode of <1 [micro]A with the ability to switch in <1 [micro]S to a fully synchronized 16 MIPS active mode. This combination enables the use of smaller lower-cost batteries in applications such as portable medical instruments and security systems for which OEMs may choose to reduce cost and liability by installing sealed batteries at the factory. The MSP-430F2xx is specified for operation from 1.8V to 3.6V. Prices will start at $0.89 in 10,000-piece quantities. Texas Instruments
