On Elba Island near Savannah, Ga., Southern LNG (a subsidiary of El Paso Gas) operates the Elba Island LNG Import Terminal, a liquefied natural gas terminal where LNG is transferred from ships arriving at the Savannah port. An important element of the Southern LNG facility is its ship turning basin, which LNG tankers use for maneuvering, and El Paso Gas is planning to expand the basin's size.
