Urbanization claims county agent position.

(May 16, 2006) Urbanization has led to the demise of county Extension programs across the country. That's nothing new. But its latest victim comes in Wisconsin, which stubbornly clings to its title as the nation's Dairy State.

In a letter to the Waukesha County agricultural community, Dave Williams, assistant program leader for the University of Wisconsin Extension Service, reports that a vacant ag agent position cannot be filled due to lack of funding. That's despite the fact that the county still has about 40 dairy farms, 3,500 cows and several large cropping operations. Waukesha County is located adjacent to Milwaukee, Wisconsin's largest city.
