Technology stocks have had quite a run lately -- the Nasdaq composite index climbed 50% in 2003. However, as prices surged, many issues have become dangerously overvalued. Investors interested in this volatile sector must look for reasonably-priced stocks.

Check Point Software (CHKP), a provider of security software for businesses, didn't see the excessive run-up its peers did, says A.G. Edwards analyst Robert Breza. The stock trades at 22 times 2004 consensus earnings estimates versus a P/E of 28 for the overall software industry. And analysts are still forecasting negative earnings for the Nasdaq.
