Logistics Management & Distribution Report, May, 1999
* The U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) has announced a proposal to raise the annual hazardous-materials transportation registration fee from $300 to $2,000. The administration also plans to increase the number of persons required to register for hazmat shipments from 27,000 to 45,000 nationwide, which would include parties offering or transporting hazmat shipments.
The extra money would provide additional funding for emergency planning and training programs. RSPA will hold a public meeting concerning this issue on May 25. For more information, contact RSPA at (202) 366-4831.
