The National Propane Gas Association is continuing its "grassroots" effort to oppose certain aspects of the Department of Transportation's new hours-of-service regulations.

Through several of the organization's community efforts, the NPGA reports that, as of early December, more than 500 letters have been sent to U.S. representatives and senators voicing displeasure with the proposed changes to the regulations.

The new rules, which were to take effect Jan. 4, have a provision that restricts on-duty time. Previously, drivers were allowed 15 on-duty hours, but now will have only 14 hours on-duty. Drivers were also able to split their shifts, but now may not extend the workday beyond 14 hours after initially clocking in. And drivers must be given 10 hours...
