DOT renews propane farm cart permit until 2010.(WASHINGTON, DC)(Brief article)

LP/Gas, September, 2006

The Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has granted the propane industry's request for renewal of the farm cart exemption until July 31, 2010.

The measure allows the transportation of LPG in non-DOT specification cargo tank vehicles over public roads for agricultural purposes.

As a result of regulatory changes made in December 2005, the term exemption has been replaced with special permit in the federal regulations.

An additional regulatory change last December allowed for an extension of the effective period of renewed special permits from two years to four.
