LP/Gas, February, 2007
Federal administrators are reportedly giving final consideration to a requirement that truckers use electronic recorders to track the hours they spend on the road. The proposed rule, approved by the White House, is designed to increase driver and carrier safety without being too costly.
Drivers currently are required to record their hours on paper. Federal Motor Carder Safety Administration has been working on the rule since 2004. A rule could be published in early 2007, according to "Transport Topics," a trucking industry publication.
