INFANT GROWTH CHARTS REVISED

AUSTRALIAN mothers may have been overfeeding their babies based on misleading height and weight growth charts.

The WHO has released new standards based for the first time on breastfed babies, whereas previous charts were based on a combination of breastfed and formula-fed infants. The revised standards were established following a study involving 8000 infants from six countries, including India, Oman and the US. WHO officials said even children who are not breastfed should be compared to the new standards.
