THERE are far less risky ways of terminating your relationship with a patient than contracting an underworld figure, as one doctor did back in the 1980s.

While I have only ended a relationship with a patient twice in almost 20 years in general practice, the fact that I could tell any patient not to return was remarkably liberating.

What pushes your buttons with patients? Multiple missed appointments? Unpaid bills? Drug-seeking behaviour? Failure to follow advice?
